My beloved Blue point Siamese cat Koko

by Cindy, Canada

--------------

Hello, My name is Cindy. My life is for the cats. I had the pleasure of visiting Rainbow Bridge when I lost my beloved Blue point Siamese cat Koko. I would like to share with you all his story..abridged though..

Oct 21, 22 years ago, my blue point queen delivered 4 beautiful babies. She lived long enough to clean them and give them their first feeding. Five hours later, she died. I managed to rear all four by hand. The first born was a sturdy fellow. I named him Tazmieoko, koko for short. I always fed him last...held him and cuddled him. Rubbed his tiny tummy with a little finger mitten, etc. When his eyes first opened a week or 2 later..my eyes were the first ones he saw. We were inseperable and his antics and love for me was the subject of many coffee conversations. He saw the birth of my 2 children, helped me through a painfull divorce, and approved my second husband. We spent 3 nights apart in his entire life. Both times when i had the kids.

He survived a thyroidectomy at age 15 when the vet said he thought he would not pull through. He survived going onto a generic cat food when he could not tolerate the prescription food for his thyroid. The vet again said that he would not make it if he did not have this food. On the morning of his 19th birthday 3 years ago, I realized that he was going to leave me soon. I had a long talk with him...told him I loved him, but that it was ok for him to sleep if he wanted to. Told him I would miss him and love him always.

That same night as I was clipping his nails, he reached for my face with his paw...he held my cheek...looked in my eyes...and my eyes were the last thing he saw as he left this world.

His ashes rest beside my bed to remain with me till I leave this world. I promised him that I would see to it that cats would always have a sanctuary in my home. We are now foster parents with the local Humane Society, and a private shelter called Stray Siamese Rescue. We have an elderly fellow named Gar, and a young gal named Dusty. They were pulled from abusive homes and have found a loving place with us.
