Worshipping at the Bowl

by Flippy, Melbourne, Australia

--------------

There has a been kind of "Worshipping at the Bowl" going on at my place during the past few months. No, it has nothing to do with the Porcelain Bowl and the Church of the Holy Three-Three. The kind of worshipping I am referring to is the kind that takes place when a kitty has access to a goldfish bowl.

As you may or may not know, another pet has joined our happy home: Harold the Goldfish. Harold has settled in after the first few stormy weeks when we weren't sure if Harold would survive the trauma of living with three felines and two humans who had no idea that his water needs to be carefully monitored and treated with chemicals.

Harold has become very familiar with his surroundings and also with the other members of the family. He has made friends with us - he rises to the top of the bowl to "kiss" Mia when she feeds him.

The cats of course, immensely enjoy having Harold around, but they especially enjoy drinking his water out of the goldfish bowl. (Don't worry; I have checked that the treated water is not harmful for cats.) It is a very familiar sight in our house to see the cats sitting in front of the goldfish bowl, drinking the water, while at the same time Harold rises up to the surface to "kiss" the little pink kitty tongues. On more than one occasion each of the cats have jumped in fright when Harold kissed them. :-)

Although the cats have constant access to fresh water served in their own bowl, they prefer to drink Harold's water. So, instead of us having to change Harold's water every week, all we need to do is to top it up every few days! Romeo, Juliet, and Chloe will be SO disappointed when we move Harold into a larger tank next week...
