The Cats' Revenge

by Pam Shirk, North Carolina, USA

--------------

This morning I was going to sleep in because there is no school today and therefore, a holiday. Mandy is spending the day with Rob at work and Mike is at his friend Jason's house. So I could sleep in, right?

Around 7 am I heard Berfert yowling as he ran back and forth across my legs.

"Mrama now!! Mrama! Now!!" He sang as he ran back and forth across me. I ignored him and was able to go back to sleep.

Later, I was dreaming about something or another when rain became an element of the dream. "Its a gentle shower, but sproadic and its coming in sideways. It's not supposed to rain like that," I thought. I woke up and openned my eyes.

Merlin was standing on my night stand holding the straw in my water glass out of the way with his head and flicking water in my face with his paw. I know this was deliberate as the straw got loose from his head once and he stopped flicking water at me long enough to catch the straw, scoop it to his shoulder so that he could hold it in place with his head and then flicked some more water in my face. He stopped when he saw me looking at him.

I was going to try to go back to sleep when I realized that he was still strategically positioned by my water glass and ready to use his version of a water cannon at me. I quickly decided that 7:30 was late enough to sleep in on your day off. The score? Cats 2, Me 1.
