WBF sanctions HUM with rule of 18. Does ACBL also sanction with the rule of 18? Or additional high card points sanctions for opening bids at one level? two level? three level? How constrained am I for opening bid agressiveness? |

ACBL convention regulations make no mention of the rule of 18 or similar rules. On the General Convention Chart, opening at the one level by partnership agreement on less than 8 HCP is prohibited.
The only restriction I can see for natural preempts at the two and three level (or higher, for that matter) is that if you have an agreement to open a weak two on a range greater than 7 points or with fewer than 5 cards you may not use conventional calls thereafter. You may find, particularly in clubs, that the actual rule is "whatever the TD - or some influential player - doesn't like is prohibited" even when the GCC is nominally in force. |
