results in pairs ( 13:01:42 TueJul 29 2003 )

Country: FRANCE

Hi all

Does a rule exist to calculate the sum of the results in percentages ( adding NS and EW) in rapport with the number of parcipants? I mean if there is ten tables, therefore 2O results, is the total of percentages in relation with the number of tables ?
Many thanks in advance
Best regards

No, this does not sound right, though I am not quite sure what you mean. Results in pairs tournaments are generally either shown in matchpoints, which means you have to adjust for pairs who play different numbers of boards, or in percentages of the pair's score divided by the total possible score available.

I believe percentages are much better once players are used to them. It means that a 60% game, for example, is pretty good, but not usually a win, whatever the numbers of pairs or boards.

On each board, if N/S get x% of the available matchpoints, E/W get (100-x)%. So adding all the percentage scores on any one board for all pairs in both directions should yield a total of 100 times the number of pairs in one direction. The same should therefore be true of adding all the final percentages for all pairs. So taking the example given of a 10 table game, the sum of the final percentages of all pairs in both directions should be 1000.

This assumes a one-section game in which there are the same number of pairs in each direction, all pairs play the same number of boards, and there are no non-offsetting adjusted scores or procedural penalties.
