Liz won the Cheshire Salver!
It is the first County event that she has ever won after twenty years of playing in County events. She entered the County Teams-of-Four [the Lady Connell Cup] and met one of the two Merseyside & Cheshire top teams, captained by Ted Reveley, and duly lost. That's no shame, since my team, including John Armstrong, lost to him in the next round!
First round losers enter the Cheshire Salver. After a first round bye, she played against the team captained by Jon Fjortoft. After 18 boards she was losing by 15 imps, but pulled back 17 imps over the last six boards!
Into the final against Joan King's team. Everyone expected Joan King to win. Liz gained 15 imps over the first 8 boards, then another 18, then another 16, to lead by 49 with 8 to play. She was somewhat worried because her team never wins after leading! Dropping 11 imps over the last 8 boards was no hardship and she duly won.
Since then, Liz has shown this is really her own event, by winning it again in 2000 and 2002.
