Usually, Jason goes outside immediately after breakfast and stays away from home for several hours. This morning, however, he returned within five minutes to sit looking sadly at me on one of the kitchen work surfaces. I asked him what was wrong but he wouldn't tell me. So, thinking that either someone or something outside had upset him, I picked him up and gave him a hug. But this did not comfort him and once he was back down on the ground he gave me another anxious look and hurried back outside. Five minutes later he returned still looking worried. He gave me yet another mournful look then went out again through the kitchen window. Five minutes later he was back sitting on the work surface again looking mournfully at me. Again, I tried to comfort him. Again without success. Jason then left once more through the kitchen window. This time he did not return.
About half an hour later when I went outside to do some jobs, I heard the unmistakable sound of a cat in apparent distress. Although it was a faint meowing, the sound seemed to come from close by to where I stood. And, sure enough, it was coming from only a few feet away from inside my closed garage. Hurriedly I opened it's door and out shot Jason's friend Abbie who, unbeknown to me, had followed me in there earlier and become trapped.
I expect that by now all Jason's and Abbie's friends have been told just how long it takes for their slave to put two and two together.
