We got back from camping yesterday afternoon to find Merlin sitting on the kitchen table looking out the window for us. I got the impression that it was his turn on watch. One of the best things about having teenagers is being able to tell them to unload the car while you have a nap. We greeted all the kitties and Rob and I sacked out.
PC decided that we hadn't given him enough attention. He dashed back and forth across the bed four times before taking off to find the kids and tease the other kitties. Rob said something about harboring a terrorist before dozing off. I fell asleep too, only to be awoken by something soft brushing against the bottoms of my feet. Merlin was snoring with his paws touching my feet, as though we were holding paws. Berfert was gazing soulfully into my face while resting his head on his paws. He looked as tired as I felt. Tanada was stretched out on Rob's legs. The cats were laying along all three sides of the bed which could be reached by a rambunctious kitten.
PC dashed into the room. Berfert raised his head, rolled over and glared at the kitten. PC turned and ran out of the room. Berfert settled down as I looked at the clock in astonishment. We'd been sleeping for a couple of hours. The cats had guarded us from the terrorist kitty. I nudged Rob awake and told him about PC and how the cats had protected us. We then gave all three of the cats lots of love and attention. They had given us that couple of hours we needed to sleep off the effects of the road.
Later PC leaped over Merlin as he swatted his tail, ran up Berfert's body and over his head, and took Tanada's snack. He ran up and down the hall, attacked Mandy's ankles (no claws, just slapped them), tried to take my dinner off of my plate and pulled all of the toys out of the cats' toy box. No wonder the cats looked so tired when we got home. They'd all been baby sitting the punk cat.
