Cherokee

by David Yehudah, Bellflower, CA, USA

Just now I was sitting on the couch watching tv when Patty laid a long, soft, plastic rod next to me. She uses it for fishing elastic through the waistbands on the dresses she makes. One end of it has a knob that is fairly heavy.

Cherokee lay asleep on the other end of the couch, so I picked up the rod and dangled the knob in front of him for him to play with.

He just looked at it for a moment, then reached out a paw and half-heartedly batted it. It sprang back. More interested now, he gave it a harder swat, and it sprang back and hit him in the nose!

Damn, that cat got mad, clear through. He swarmed that plastic knob, over and over, increasingly vigorous, and it just kept battering his nose. Finally he snatched it out of my hand; with a cry of triumph he swatted it to the floor, whereupon it sprang back up and whacked him again. Frustrated he ran upstairs to poot, uh, pout.

When all this started, Patty was sitting in her chair. But by the time it was over she had slid all the way to the floor, LOL, tears running down her face.
