Floor Wax

by David Yehudah, Bellflower, CA, USA

I swear these little hairy varmint critters are trying to tickle me to death.

Today Patty mopped and waxed the floor in the hallway and kitchen areas. I don't know exactly what happened, but I saw Samantha go down the hallway toward the litter box under the stairs. Mac followed. Suddenly there was this hellatious hisspit from that direction, followed by a resounding "whomp," as in Sam just swatted the pup. He probably got too anxious to snare a fresh Tootsie Roll.

The next thing I saw was Mac hell-bent for leather back up the hall with Sam hot on his heels. But what made it so funny was that both were running flat out and barely making progress on that fresh-waxed floor. They slowly gathered steam, like locomotives coming out of the station (a loco-motive is a crazy reason for doing something. :-)) until they finally got some speed up just as they got to the turn.

Mac's feet flew out from under him at the corner, and he ran into the wall, feet first, still running. His little chubby legs were really pumping. That was when he discovered he got better traction on the wall than on the floor, so he slid on his side and ran the length of the kitchen wall, clawing off half the paint on the baseboard as he went.

am managed to stay upright but just stood there and stared in amazement at that silly mutt. On the other hand, maybe he wasn't so silly; after all, he escaped.
