My angels even care about the cat they hate!

My furry crew, His Royal Feline Lordship Tiger, Robbie, Sam and Pandora are very wary of my foster cat Flo-Jo, after all everytime she sees them, she tries to beat them up.

Today, Flo-Jo had to have a fairly major operation, in that she was opened up by the vet for exploratory surgery as we thought she had lumps/tumours in her stomach, and she also needed to be spayed. Because she is a "difficult" cat, she needed a very specific combination of anaesthesia drugs which included ketamine, which has particularly nasty side-effects. Although she is now recovering at home, and fortunately nothing untoward was discovered, it is taking an extremely long time for the drugs to work through her system, and she is not well as she is reacting very badly to the anaesthetic.

Tiger has taken up residence outside the room she is confined in. Every time he hears her move, moan or struggle to stand, he howls at the top of his lungs until I come upstairs and check her. Then he settles back down in the meatloaf position until she moves again, at which point he howls for my attention, until I arrive. He hasn't moved all afternoon, and Robbie, Sam and Pandora have joined him in his vigil. They don't even like her! All they know is that a "furry one" is sick, and can't get help herself.

It brings a lump to my throat every time I see their concern - they are really worried, and are being extra vigilant. I've spoken to my vet this evening and everything is under control, but the Miles felines don't think so. They just know that a "furry one" is sick, and she needs them. I am so touched. It really makes you reassess priorities when you see animals put aside their differences because one of them is sick.

Man is definitely not the superior being on this planet.
