Finally, I got one up on them. These little hairy varmint critters are always taking advantage of my good nature, but today I won out over at least one of them. My victory will be fleeting at best, but, hey, I'll take any I can get.
Samantha started this real annoying habit about a week ago. She will watch me walking around the room and try and anticipate where I'm going to sit. The minute she thinks she has it figured out, she runs and beats me to the chair and hunkers down and won't move. She even hooks her paws around the rungs on the chairs and hangs on when I try to evict her.
This morning I knew I was going to be at the puter most of the day, so I moved two chairs in front of the monitor. Sure enough, the minute I headed that way, she beat me to it. So I just rolled that chair to one side and sat in the other! The look on her face was priceless, like, "Now, how'd he do that?" I did that a half-dozen times today, and every time she gave me this same puzzled look.
Probably before the day's out, she'll figure it out and go for reinforcements. I'm going to need all four chairs over here; one each for Sam, Cherokee, and Mac, plus one for me. When Patty comes home I'll probably have to go buy another chair! We all know whose side she's on.
